IT has finally been decided that we are going to go with Rails. I am happy with this decision. Through our work on Touristr.com we have become very comfortable with Rails as a development platform. As we are trying to bootstrap this development, one of the key factors affecting our choice was our budget. As it is currently hovering around 0 it really tightened up our options. The fact that we have 2 developers able and willing to work on this in their spare time pretty much clinched it. So Ruby on Rails it is, hopefully coming to "the Internets" near you.
So, I am currently developing a website, that is similar in concept to Pownce, but attempts to give its users a platform to share, and comment on sports news and highlights. We are kinda bootstrapping this development, as we are not currently in a position to shell out for huge development costs.
In the next week we really need to make a few decisions regarding the future of our little web app bench'd. The main decision is what platform should we build our website on. I personally have used Rails and PHP, with Django currently turning my head. I get distracted very easily really. I want to pose a question to anyone who may read this. What is your opinion?
PHP will cheap, I have a good level of experience with it, and therefore can contribute more then just the design. However, Ruby on Rails, and Django, will help us hit our deadlines better (only my opinion), but will no doubt incur higher development costs. Please share your thoughts below.
